Phuket is an island province located 530 miles south of Bangkok off the Andaman Sea on the west coast of Thailand. The city is a lively one with a well-deserved reputation as one of the party capitals of Asia. Also, nature lovers will enjoy a trip to the island’s many beaches and waterfalls. The island is connected to mainland Thailand by two bridges. It is located roughly midway between Bangkok and Singapore. The local airport, Phuket International Airport, receives visitors from as far away as Europe.

Party Scene

The party scene for the Phuket holidays is impressive. The most energetic place to party on the island is Patong Beach. Patong has an impressive number of bars, clubs, discos, and nightclubs. The nightclubs with dance floors here is something not often seen in Thailand. Its stores and restaurants stay open late, as well. A variety of massage parlors and spas of all types are also available. The entire party area can be covered on foot, although there are plenty of transportation options available. Karon Beach is a little more laid back than Patong, perfect for those looking for a little less crazy, quieter place to party. The capital of Phuket City is more local-oriented and a good destination for those who want to get away from the tourist scene.

Beaches

The beaches in Phuket are impressive with their white sand and clear water. Many also take advantage of the premier opportunities to water ski, sail and snorkel available here. Patong is also a beach destination and is the largest beach resort on the island. The beach itself is about two miles long. Kata Beach is a good destination for those who want more of a family feel. That beach is lined with palm trees and has a nightlife that is a little more laid back. Kamala Beach is even more laid back and can even be deserted at times, even during times when the other beaches are packed. Art enthusiasts will surely enjoy a visit to Karon Beach, as an art community is located near the beach.

Waterfalls

Water enthusiasts will also enjoy a visit to the many waterfalls that are available throughout the island. The waterfalls are even more impressive late in the rainy season, which generally runs from May until October. Conversely, some waterfalls are essentially non-existent during the dry season. The waterfalls are generally much less crowded than the beaches, allowing for a more relaxing setting to enjoy a natural setting. Two of the best waterfalls are in Khao Phra Thaeo National Park. Bang Pae is Phuket’s largest waterfall and is about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot. Ton Sai makes up for its lack of size with a very scenic setting. Another beautiful waterfall in Kathu. Its forest setting only adds to this waterfall’s charm.
