Rome is rich with culture and history, it’s famous museums are some of the most popular in the world. Because of it’s artistic atmosphere and multitude of museums, it can be hard to decide where to go in Rome. With an array of hotels and apartments in Rome, you can get somewhere not too far from all the beautiful sites.

We’ve listed some of the most amazing museums in Rome so you don’t have to decide on your own. To name but a few, Palazzo Altemps, Galleria Borghese, Capitoline Museum, Galleria Doria Pamphilj and Galleria Nazionale d`Arte Mordena. Incase you are searching for an educational yet fun experience, consider these 5 awesome museums in Rome.

 

1. Palazzo Altemps
This is a Renaissance palace which was initially a museum. It was opened up in the year 1997 and is now considered to be a perfect venue for art lovers visiting Rome. Inside, you will come across a number of classical sculptures such as Ludovisi Ares and Ludovisi Gaul. You will also find Grande Ludovisi which is the best piece in this particular museum. This museum also hosts Egyptian collections which are from Museo Nazionale Romano. In addition, you will find interesting collections such as The Drago and Mattei Collection.

2. Galleria Borghese
This museum is truly a hidden treasure in the city of Rome. It is home to important sculptures and paintings by Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens and Raphael among others. Tickets to this amazing museum are usually booked advance via the internet, you simply visit their website.

3. Galleria Doria Pamphilj
This is a museum hardly gets overcrowded which is quite unfortunate. However, it has lovely paintings which are a wonder. The most famous painting is `Pope Innocent X` by Diego Velasquez. Other attractions in this museum are Caravaggio paintings and Bernini sculptures. It is only a matter of time before this museum attracts more visitors. Hence, don`t miss visting this museum because you will be amazed by the collection you will findb there.

4. Capitoline Museums
These museums host great works of art which originate from ancient Roman times. They are located in Campidolgio square which is on Capitoline Hill. The museums owe their origin to Pope Sixtus IV who donated ancient bronzes for public viewing in 1471. He placed the bronzes in a structure on top of Capitoline Hill. Inside, you will find pieces that are over 2,200 years of age. You will be amazed by a popular statue representing Romulus and Remus who are the founders of this city.

5. Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna
This is an important art museum which is home to incredible pieces. On display, you will find paintings by famous painters such as Renoir, Goya and De Chirico. You will also find sculptures alongside these romantic paintings. Since this museum is devoted to modern paintings, you will not be disappointed by the collection that you will find inside.

Rome will give you a sneak peak into the past and a chance to view great works of art by renowned painters. You will find the entire experience quite breath taking and certainly unforgettable. Remember to book your tickets in advance where neccessary to avoid any last minute hassles.
