TOP THREE THINGS TO DO IN BELIZE

Belize - Ross French - September 13, 2017

travel to belize

Located in Central America, the tropical country Belize is famous among travelers for its beautiful beaches, picturesque islands, and its mysterious ancient Mayan ruins. From travel-bloggers, backpackers to luxury tourists, thousands of people from all over the world flock over to the tropical paradise of Belize every year. The plethora of activities that you get to experience when you travel to Belize makes it one of the go-to destinations of Central America. Belize is the perfect destination to spend a vacation experiencing the ancient culture and rich history of Mayan civilization. And after you have got your archeological-fix, take a long walk into the sunset along the coastline, explore the deep blue sea while scuba diving or spend some relaxing days in one of the Garifuna villages. Here are the top three activities which you must indulge in when you travel to Belize.

1. Explore the Age Old Mayan World

The place that we know today as Belize, was the heart of the Mayan civilization which thrived in Central America nearly 2000 years ago. There are tons of ancient Mayan ruins and temples and complexes throughout Belize. From Caracol to Xunantunich, from Altun Ha to Actun Tunichil Muknal – there are a ton of ancient Mayan ruins in and around Belize for you to explore. You can enjoy the panoramic views atop a Mayan pyramid or walk through the streets of an abandoned Mayan city located in the middle of a dense forest. If you want to explore the more intriguing, mysterious and challenging experience, take a trip to the Mayan underworld by visiting the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave system. Exploring the long lost ruins of Mayan culture is an experience which you must indulge in while you travel to Belize.

2. Dive into the Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is the largest known sink hole under the ocean. This world famous Belize attraction is so large that it can even be seen from the outer space. The sink hole was formed about 10,000 years ago. Diving into this ancient and extraordinary sink hole is one of the must do things when you travel to Belize. The Blue Whole is also home to the world’s largest midnight parrot fishes. The water is clear and you can easily see the amazing underwater activity while you dive.

3. Go on a Sunset Boat Cruise

Another one of the really must do activities when you travel to Belize is to go on a sunset boat cruise. The best sunset view in Belize can only be seen from the middle of the sea. The beautiful waters of the sea, the changing colors of the ocean and the sky makes a private boat cruise essential while you enjoy your vacation in Belize. There are a lot of private tour operators organizing private sunset boat cruises in Belize. You will get to spend your day on a luxurious boat, enjoying the comfort of private butler service and a range of delectable seafood. Watch the beautiful view as the sun sets on the horizon into the ocean. If you are lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the much eluded ‘Green Flash’ in the evening sky.

With water as blue as that, I’d jump in that sink hole in an instant
