5 Tips to Stay Healthy While Traveling

Travel Tips - Ross French - September 16, 2021

Traveling is an incredible experience, but it can be easy to let healthy habits slip while you’re away. Many people put on extra pounds or drink unhealthy amounts of alcohol while traveling, which can have long-term health consequences. This is why many people use supplements and nutritional products on the road, such as the organic honey from Gold Bee, to keep themselves as healthy as possible.

You must make your health a priority when you travel, especially if you plan on being away for a long time. Here are five tips to help you stay healthy while traveling:

1. Book your vaccinations

You must check your health records and find out what vaccinations you need to get before you travel. Vaccinations can protect you against serious illnesses and diseases like typhoid, hepatitis A, and rabies. You shouldn’t travel until you have been fully vaccinated.

Keep in mind that it will take time to build up immunity, and most vaccinations need to be administered several weeks before you travel. Therefore, book an appointment with your doctor or travel clinic as early as possible to check what vaccinations are needed.

2. Wear sunscreen daily

You should wear sunscreen every day while you are traveling. Exposure to UV rays can damage your skin cells and cause cancer, which is why you must wear high-factor sunscreen to protect your skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, you should wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher and broad-spectrum protection.

3. Practice safe sex

You should practice safe sex while traveling by always wearing a condom. Don’t rely on the other person to have protection, and always pack your own condoms. Unprotected sex can lead to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies. You can purchase STI tests like a trichomoniasis test kit before you travel. This simple kit allows you to check whether you have contracted an STI and seek treatment quickly. Should you feel like you wish to go and get tested in person, you can search online for, say, “Gonorrhea test near me” to find a test provider nearby. Getting tested is quite easy and simple process. Depending upon the test you will get the results delivered discreetly within 2 to 10 days.

4. Drink lots of water

It is easy to become dehydrated when you are traveling, especially if you are visiting a country with a hot climate and tap water is unsafe to drink. Medical experts recommend that adult men drink roughly 3.7 liters of water a day and women consume around 2.7 liters. You’ll need to drink more water if you’re doing a lot of physical activity or sweating.

Make sure that you plan your water intake for the day and drink regularly. For example, purchase a reusable bottle before you travel so that you don’t have to buy plastic water bottles every day. You can also increase your daily water intake by eating water-rich foods like watermelon and pineapple.

5. Don’t overdo it

Traveling is exciting, and it is natural to want to experience as much as possible while you’re away. However, you should be careful not to overdo it, or you may start to feel fatigued and burnt out. This will make you more susceptible to illnesses and infections. Make sure that your travel itinerary includes plenty of downtime when you can relax and unwind.

Follow these tips to stay healthy while you travel and enjoy your trip to the fullest!
