5 Ways to Earn on the Go

Travel Tips - Ross French - September 8, 2021

Money

Travelling can be a costly hobby, but we pay because we know that the experiences we gain along the way are well worth any price tag.

And if you’re a would-be globetrotter with an insatiable wanderlust, you probably spent all of lockdown planning their next adventure, and we’re sure you’re eager to hit the road again.

But with the steep costs of travel, you may sometimes find yourself needing to earn a little extra spending money to tide you over.

So, whether you’re after a long- or short-term solution to your travelling expenditures, here are five ways that you can make money on the move.

1. Freelance

More professions than you might imagine have the potential to be taken freelance.

It’s a competitive market out there, so it will take you some time to build a name for yourself, but with a good profile and some positive feedback, you’ll be able to start bringing in some cash.

Use a platform such as Fiverr to find jobs to suit your skills all over the world.

2. Busking

Are you musically talented? Busking can be a great way to earn a little extra doing what you love.

Take your instrument away with you and set up on a busy street. It’s not ideal for financing your trip long term, but it’s a great way to get a feel for the city around you.

3. Travel Blog

If you’re a frequent traveller, you may already be in the habit of chronicling your travel adventures online.

Turn this hobby into a career, and start making money from your posts. Maratopia Digital Marketing can help you craft a bespoke and marketable personal brand which forms valuable connections not only with readers, but advertisers too, in order to bring in the big bucks.

As with freelancing, it can take some time to get your name out there, but with a little investment of your time, it can really pay off.

4. Rent Your Home

If your home is going to be sat empty, then you might as well rent it out while you’re away, whether for short term holiday lets, or one tenant for the duration of your trip.

Depending on your location, the rental market can be profitable, so you’ll have the potential to fund your whole holiday.

5. Sell Your Snaps

We expect you’ll be taking photos as you go anyway – we live in the age of Instagram after all.

But did you know that these photographs can make you money?

As long as they are of a high quality, then you can sell them to stock photo companies such as Shutter Stock.

The site does take a cut, so you’ll have to be producing images in a large quantity, but we’re sure that you already are!

Travelling the world can be one of the biggest joys in life, but even on a budget the cost can really start to tally up, so we hope that these five suggestions can make things a little easier for you.
