So, you’ve booked your next getaway, and you’re ready to let the stress melt away as you unplug, unwind and reset. Still, as you prepare for your trip, you may be inspired to try to pack like a minimalist for this vacation. If you’re unsure of what you need to bring versus what can be left at home, help is here! No matter where you’re headed, there are universally essential travel wardrobe pieces that every woman needs. Keep reading to determine what makes the list and what you can cut.
Layering Pieces
Layering pieces may look different to individuals because of body type, personal style, age, and other factors that come into play. Whether you opt for an oversized shawl, a zip-up hoodie, or a cardigan, a light layering piece is essential during travel. When temperatures fluctuate between home, on the plane, and where you’re headed to normal temperature changes at your destination, you’ll feel better with one layering piece to count on. Save room in your luggage by wearing this piece instead of packing it.
Extra Intimates
One area where it’s hard to travel like a minimalist is when it comes to your undergarments. While it’s easy to get away with wearing the same jeans for an entire trip, you’ll want several types of bras and enough underwear for each day you travel. It’s also a good idea to bring at least two or three extra pairs of underwear. Bring one sports bra, one strapless, and one conventional bra.
The Perfect Jeans
Let’s face it; denim jeans are one of the most iconic pieces of fashion and for a good reason. Jeans go with virtually everything in every season. They can be dressed up or dressed down, not to mention they’re ridiculously comfortable. Whether you’re team skinny, straight, flare jeans, or anywhere in between, grab your favorite pair and make sure you bring them along for the ride.
Oversized Sunglasses
For many of us, vacations and traveling are times we look forward to because we can let loose. Whether you’re enjoying local spirits during your long nights on vacation or just not getting enough sleep because of all the fun you’re having, some days, there isn’t enough undereye concealer in the world to hide your dark circles and puffiness from lack of sleep. Make sure you still look good in your selfies with a pair of oversized sunglasses in your carry-on.
Smart Shoes
No matter if you’re “indoorsy” or outdoorsy, having the right footwear to enjoy your trip is essential. The problem with shoes, though? They can take up a ton of space in your suitcase. Think about what you’ll really be doing on your trip and pack appropriate shoes. Of course, walking shoes are a must on most vacations as you’re exploring and sightseeing. But do you really need a pair of heels? Are you traveling somewhere remote and planning on strenuous outdoor activities? Hiking boots that protect your ankles and feet are a given. Pack as few shoes as possible while still being able to safely (and stylishly) enjoy yourself.
“The” Dress
One dress is essential even if you know you’ll be casual on your entire vacation. You never know if you need one, not to mention they’re incredibly comfortable in hot and humid environments. Midi and maxi dresses are more travel friendly as you don’t have to worry about their length in a strong gust of wind on a sidewalk or climbing in and out of taxis. Even if the dress you pack is casual cotton, you can dress it up with the right shoes and accessories. Lastly, sometimes on vacation, especially towards the end, we’re tired – dresses are an easy “one and done” throw-it-on look, so you don’t have to spend time thinking about what to wear that day.
Your packing list will, of course, include other items that are essential to your style, needs, and where you’re heading on your travels, but the above-mentioned items are something from which everyone benefits. Especially if you’re trying to save room in your luggage for souvenirs or less weight to lug around, it’s a great idea to only pack the essentials. Happy Trails!
