Making Your Move To The West Coast

Travel Blog, Travel Tips - Ross French - September 21, 2022

Moving is always an exciting new adventure that comes with plenty of work and preparation. Making sure you focus on the more important aspects of relocation can help you save time, money and stress.

Destinations

Deciding where to move is a huge decision that requires some serious thought. You have to figure out what area is best for you and your family. Maybe you’re drawn to a neighborhood that’s a short drive away from a bustling city. Maybe you’re relocating for work and don’t have much of a say on where your new position will take you.

When considering which big city would be most appealing, you’ll be hard-pressed not to let your mind wander to Los Angeles. With the notoriety of the nearby iconic Hollywood sign, the fame and glamor of movie stars and the draw of the urban vibe, Sylmar could be exactly the town to call home. By simply searching Sylmar homes for sale, you could get a feel for what kind of home you could make your own.

Sylmar

Learning what a new town has to offer is one of the best ways to make sure it’s everything you’re looking for. Especially when you’re considering calling somewhere new “home,” it’s important to understand the dynamics as well as the opportunities. Sylmar, located in Los Angeles, is an urban community. Most of the houses average 3-4 bedrooms, but some can be considerably larger with 5 or more.

Sylmar has a few unique characteristics that probably stand out to those who aren’t from the neighborhood. For example, whereas nationwide, most families own 1-2 vehicles, the residents of this town typically own as many as 3-5, sometimes even more. The buildings and ambiance of the town lend to the deep-rooted ethnic ancestry.

Plan of Action

Once you know where you plan on moving to, there is one huge thing to keep in mind; the further away you’re moving, the more detailed your relocation plan of action needs to be. To keep your costs as low as possible, there are many different things to aim for. The best way to strategize is by creating and sticking to a reasonable budget. Remember, the further away you’re moving, the more expensive the relocation itself will be.

In addition to the cost involved with making the physical relocation, such as food, gas and lodging, you’ll also have the expense of setting up a new household. Establishing utilities in a new state usually requires a deposit. Everything from the basic necessities to heat, cool and have water in your new home to also securing other amenities like cable and internet service.

Not only does your budget include physically getting your family to your new home, you need to research the best value moving your possessions. Moving companies can vary greatly in their associated charges and services. Don’t be afraid to put the work into getting several estimates and consider packing up your own belongings in order to keep your moving bill more affordable. The less the moving company has to do inside your home, the less it will cost you.

Tie Up Loose Ends

When you move, regardless of how far you go, there’s an exhaustive list of loose ends to tie up. Notify your creditors of your change of address, close existing and open new bank accounts, put a change of address form in with the post office and contact your insurance company, to name a few.

There is plenty to do when planning to move out of state; make sure you have detailed checklists to make your relocation as smooth and stress-free as possible.
