What Are the Best Ways to Record Your Holiday?

Travel Tips - Ross French - August 9, 2017

Holiday

You are sat on the beach with the hot sun and the clear sea. You don’t want ever to forget your amazing holiday, but how do you record your adventures so that you and others can enjoy them?

With today’s technology, there are many ways you can record your holiday and not only let others see it but keep it forever. Here are some of the ways you can use your camera or your mobile, to capture those holiday moments.

Equipment

If you are going to be cataloging your holiday, you will need a few things to help you. A tripod can come in handy if you want to take a still image, or if you want to be in the shot as well.

Although there are some that don’t like the selfie stick, it can be a good way to get those shots you might not otherwise manage, just make sure your phone is nice and secure.

Cameras are great for high-quality photos; however, most mobile phones are now capable of good resolution. It is important to make sure you have enough storage on your phone or camera for the whole trip.

Photos

It might sound a little old fashioned, but sometimes it is nice to have the photos in an album or special book to look at later. There is something about having them there in front of you that makes them more special than just looking at them on a screen.

If you want to get especially organized, you can even make a book cover using software like Adobe Spark. You can then choose your favorite picture and use it on the front of the album.

Animated Montage

Another good way of recording your trip is to use software to make an animated montage. In many cases, it will allow you to use both photos and video and display them in a rolling movie.

These are a good idea to send to family members so that they can see the best parts of your holiday without having to sit through all the photos.

Facebook

More people are choosing to upload their holiday snaps to social media sites like Facebook. For some, it has become the only catalog for their adventures rather than having lots of photos or CDs at home.

This can cause an issue if something goes wrong and you don’t have a copy of them elsewhere, but it is a great wayto share them with friends and family.

Action Cams

A particular favorite for those who enjoy the adventure holidays, action cams are strapped to your helmet or on a selfie stickto capture the action as it happens. There is now a wide range of these cameras that are usually shock proof and water resistant.

You can upload them to your social media, or broadcast them live through Facebook or Periscope.

There has never been so many and easy ways to capture and revisit all the special moments from your holiday.

Planning Your Time in Lloret de Mar

Travel Tips - Ross French - October 22, 2015

If you only have a limited time to spend in Lloret de Mar and want to see the best of this part of Catalonia, you may be looking for helpful planning tips to get the most out of your visit. There is a lot to see and do in the area, and although Lloret de Mar is best known for its glorious beaches, there is a lot more to this destination than sea and sand.

Lloret de Mar is in the Costa Brava, a beautiful and rugged region of Spain that boasts stunning landscapes and areas that are, as yet, relatively undeveloped. Although you could just relax on a sun lounger throughout your break, it would be a shame not to get out and see some of the other amazing sights. Here we look at some of the best activities to plan into your holiday schedule will you wait for one of our holiday transfers!

Firstly, to get the best value out of your stay, you should invest in the Lloret Card which includes entry to various attractions in the price.Museu del Mar

Although Lloret de Mar saw its first emergence into the tourist market during the 1960s foreign holiday boom, it has a much more exciting early history than hotel blocks and sunburned holidaymakers. The Museu del Mar in its beautiful old seafront building is a wonderful place to begin exploring the past of this resort. Learn about the shipbuilding trade that existed here, and the wealth generated in the town by Los Americanos who made their money in the Americas before returning home. The museum offers free entry with the Lloret Card.

After your discoveries in the museum, head to the historic town centre where you will find impressive architecture, such as the 16th century church of Sant Roma and the neo-classical town hall. Take a detour via the Cemetery of Lloret de Mar and see the unusual Catalan Modernist memorial styles.d’en Plaja castle

You should also make sure to wander along the promenade where you can admire the sculpture “The Dona Marinera” and panoramic views of the 1930s folly, the d’en Plaja castle, which makes a wonderful photographic opportunity.Santa Clotilde Gardens

Another attraction included in the price of your card that you should plan into your stay is a trip to the Santa Clotilde Gardens, just a 20 minute walk from from the end of the cliff path. An oasis of tranquility far away from the tourist crowd, these beautiful gardens boast statues, terraces and stunning sea views.

Should you wish to explore other gardens in the area, there is a combination ticket available, which includes entry fees and tourist train, boat and bus transport.

Bar Hula HulaIn the evening, why not enjoy some authentic Spanish food and drink? The tourist information office offers a trail of local tapas places and daiquiri bars so you can taste the real Spain and sample daiquiris in the cocktail’s place of origin. Bar Hula Hula is the top place to try one of these famous drinks as they are prepared by one of Lloret de Mar’s most renowned cocktail-makers.

What Is the Difference between a Holiday and a Vacation?

Travel Blog - Ross French - April 23, 2015

When people talk about holidays and vacations, they usually mean the same thing. Most of us feel that they are one and the same word, only that vacation is American English, whereas holiday is British English. Interestingly, however, the word “vacation” is 100% British and referred to a period of time during which students and workers could “vacate” the premises and have a period of time in which they could make their own decisions.

As such, it seems that the word “vacation” is actually more British. In reality, however, that word is only very rarely used by the general British public. Instead, they use the world “holiday”. This is where it gets really confusing, however, since “holiday” is actually a very American term.

A holiday actually describes a certain day during which businesses are closed. Christmas is a holiday, for instance, as is the 4th of July. Holidays are specific days in which certain events are celebrated or commemorated. As such, there are also various types of holidays.

Types of Holidays

  • Religious holidays. These commemorate specific events in the bible, such as the birth of Christ, resurrection, Easter, All Saints and so on.
  • Winter holidays. These are technically only celebrated in the northern hemisphere, although many of them are now becoming more globally accepted. These holidays start at Thanksgiving and end at New Year’s Eve.
  • National holidays. These are days that celebrate and commemorate specific national events, such as Independence Day.
  • Secular holidays. These are important days in a country that do not necessarily have any religious, seasonal or historical significance, although they often start to become historical over time. A good example is Labor Day.

In most cases in America, people take a vacation during the holiday. A holiday may mean that offices are closed anyway, which means there is no work. Often, these days fall on Mondays or Fridays, right after or before a weekend, which means the preceding or following week is a short week as well. This means that it is the perfect time to book a vacation through an organizer such as Tauck Tours.

Clearly, the history of the words “vacation” and “holiday” is actually very interesting. While they both have their individual meaning, they have become somewhat interchangeable. And while one word originated in the United Kingdom, it has now migrated to the United States, and the word that is still mainly used in the United States has been adopted in the United Kingdom.

Whether or not the words will once officially mean the exact same thing remains to be seen. In the United Kingdom, the term “holiday” is also used to described the same events as what the word describes in the United States. However, in most cases, it is then explained what type of holiday it is. They refer to the Christmas holiday, for instance, and they also have “bank holidays”, which are generally religious holidays during which the banks are closed. In either case, they don’t talk about going away somewhere. Rather, people go on holiday during the Christmas holiday.
