Wicked Things About Manila

Philippines - Ross French - February 14, 2014

things about Manila

It’s time to head to the Philippines…specifically, the capital city. Manila is unlike any place you’ve ever been before, blending Malay, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, and even American cultures together. While it may have bumper-to-bumper traffic and an often frenzied atmosphere, there is also indescribable beauty to be found. It’s time to add Manila to your travel to-do list, and here are some of the reasons why.

Wicked Things About Manila

Your Trip Won’t Break The Bank.

Travelling can be expensive. Especially those international flights! If you’re going to Europe or the Caribbean, sometimes the flight alone can cost more than the rest of your Trip. The same cannot be said for Manila. There are often cheaper flight options available when you’re heading to Southeast Asia. And when you stay at hotels in Manila, you’re not paying the same price you would in North America or the UK. You have the choice to go for a last-minute deal or just shop around for a cheaper flight option. It’s an easy way to save a little cash! Your actual stay in Manila won’t break the bank, either. The prices for accommodations, food, transportation, and even popular tourist destinations are quite low compared to the rest of the Philippines.

There Are Many Sights to See

Still wondering why you should travel to Manila? Just think about all of the amazing things you can see and do while you’re there. A few ideas include, Intramuros (a large stone citadel that has managed to survive through wars and natural disasters), Greenbelt Chapel (a church with some seriously beautiful grounds), the Marikina Shoe Museum (featuring footwear from the former First Lady, Imelda Marcos), Manila Ocean Park (an aquarium that will occupy family members of any age), and Rizal Park (one of the most popular tourist destinations in Manila). If that wasn’t enough, there are also concert venues, unique dining options, and yes, some breathtaking sunsets to enjoy.

The Shopping Is Top Notch

Do you have the shopping bug? Then Manila is the place for you. There are dozens and dozens of massively oversized shopping malls. (That means you can take that money you saved on your Trip and spend it on souvenirs to take home with you!) Each mall in Manila offers a wide variety of goods that you can buy. They have everything from homemade odds and ends to luxurious designer shops. Whatever your budget, you’ll be able to find a special trinket to remember your Trip. Spend some time shopping, dining…. and enjoying the air conditioning!

There Is Plenty To Do Nearby

Here’s the things about Manila. There is a ton to do in the city itself, but the excitement doesn’t have to stop there. There are also plenty of interesting places to see just outside the city. Manila is a transit hub, which means you can easily get from one place to another. There are busses, flights, trains, and more, making local travel a cinch. If you feel like leaving the busy urban scene behind for a day or two, the Taal Volcano and heritage town is just an hour away. Or, you may want to stop by Pampanga for the annual Giant Lantern Festival. There are so many options!
Why travel to Manila? Why not! Forget any pre-conceived ideas you have about this diverse city. There are so many reasons to soak up the local culture. This list is just the beginning.
